We are pleased and honoured to announce that our Air Show will feature one of the very first public demonstrations of the RAAF’s brand new Pilatus PC21 trainers!
Although vaguely similar in configuration to the well-known Pilatus PC9s, the PC 21s are, in fact, a completely different airframe with 1600shp – DOUBLE that of the earlier aircraft.
The PC 21 is fitted with a high-speed profile wing rated for manoeuvres up to 8 ‘G’, complete with hydraulically-assisted ailerons and spoilers which enable very high rates of roll. It is also furnished with an integrated power management and yaw system which compensates for engine power and speed changes which make it handle just like a fighter jet.

The DC3 – BIG, BOLD and BADASS
Thanks to Paul Little and the Little Group (Little Aviation), we are lucky to feature revered DC3, VH-ABR, at the 50th Anniversary Air Show at Yarra Valley Airport this year as a static display, with keen punters actually able to peek inside and get a proper, up close look!
The legendary Kanana was constructed in Santa Monica, California in 1938 as a Douglas DC-3-232A. She was then transported to Australia and registered to Australian National Airways. Given the name Kanana, meaning ‘quiet’, VH ABR was the third DC-3 ever to be imported to Australia. 80 years of continuous flying and a life spattered with adventures, incidents and a number of airlines later, Kanana now resides at the Melbourne Jet Base, Tullamarine; recently restored in an effort instigated by Paul Little and the R.M. Ansett Historical Aircraft Society. The restoration of Kanana went according to plan and in April 2017, approximately two years into the restoration effort, the fully rebuilt engines burst into action once again.
